I look out at the Putney mtn ridge with the lingering fall colors. It’s quiet (except for the gun shots of hunting season… Oh well) and think of years past of knitting. It’s a lovely Sunday morning, I already made muffins, started the bread, and soaking beans for the soup tonight. EZ knitters almanac surfaces to my mind. Reminding myself that I will make my own wool long johns this year, farmers almanac is predicting a cold one. Like so many I know, I long for self sufficiency and living directly. I have finished a few new designs. One for GMS that hopefully y’all will see in the next month or so. A poncho that I need to write the pattern for, now I am on to a colorwork yoke sweater out of Mountain Mohair that should keep the shivers away. I will post progress pics soon. In New England in particular, this time of year is a time of transition when we are preparing for the coming of cold darker days. When most everything shifts to indoor activities with some snowshoeing and sledding escapades. I love it. Snuggling up with a hot beverage of choice, my knitting, anda good movie or some nice music, It says nothing but home to me.
Now that Memorial Day has recently passed, the flea market has started and I found a great vintage knitting book. Every time I think I’ve seen them all, I find one that is a real gem. At only $.50 how could I not pick it up! Almost all the projects are in the round using bulky yarn – really fun inspiration! These vintage magazines make me realize that hand crafts were much more prevalent in everyday life when it was published.
My good friends at Frabjous Fibers recently went to TNNA with my Down the Rabbit Hole Shawl and it was a huge hit! I reknit it in another new color way called “Jub Jub” and I am loving it! The Wonderland Yarn color gradient mini skein packs are all machine washable and 5oz of beauty!
Another new Wonderland Yarn is their machine washable bulky, it is perfect for the Road Trip Hat pattern. A quick and now really easy to care for hat, you just can’t go wrong! I am going to use it for a bunch of others as well, like the Horseshoe Cowl, Through the Woods Cowl, and Meg’s Brimmed Hat. The options are endless!
