Fall is on the way!

13 Sep 2012 / 0 Comments / in News, Patterns, Uncategorized, Yarn/by Rachel

The leaves are changing , the nights are cooler, wool socks at night and a light sweater  in the morning are marks of the beginning of my favorite time of year. People are finishing up forgotten projects and fantasizing about their first of the new season. We are loving our new space, but most of all the front porch and the garden. Wesley loves playing in the flowers and practicing going up and down the steps. Recently I got to meet Knit Purl Gurl who not long ago moved to the neighborhood.  We had the best time knitting on the porch with coffee and chocolate brownies. We are looking forward to Having Namaste Bags. Currently I am reworking a pattern the I made for My husband a while back. It is based on an Elizabeth Zimmerman hat. I wanted to do a different color work pattern on it so I consulted  Alice Starmore’s Charts for Color Knitting. Then the thought crossed my mind if I am referencing two of the knitting greats in this design I should definitely choose a pattern from his heritage along with our favorite influence…NATURE! It is working up nicely in Frog Tree Alpaca Sport and I will post some pics soon.

Also the cooler weather reminds me that I need to make new woolies for my little man. I think I want to make it out of Malabrigo’s Rios this year. So lovely!

What I am Working on.

19 Jul 2012 / 0 Comments / in News, Patterns, Yarn/by Rachel

People always ask what I am working on and it happens to be a great many things for the first time in a long time. I am working on Elizabeth Zimmerman’s “Baby February  Sweater” (picture coming soon). Even though it has been hot as heck the last few weeks I am already fantasizing about the Fall and Winter. The Fibre Company (friends of mine from Philadelphia) have a free pattern for a beautiful shawl they have named “Quaking Aspen Shawl” made with their yarn “Acadia” which we just got in. I can’t wait to start on it this weekend. Nothing says Fall to me more then a lovely new shawl. I am also working on a pair of socks out of a fun new sock yarn that just came in called “Faires ans Elves” from Opal. The color I chose has shades of blue, green and olive. I am not usually one for machine printed sock yarns but I am finding it very enjoyable. This sock sample is for our upcoming Sock class so don’t wait to long to sign up and miss out.

Spring is Here!

16 Mar 2012 / 0 Comments / in Patterns/by Rachel

Spring is here and many knitters will put their needles away soon –  something I have never personally understood. There are so many things to knit and so little time.  I found two great spring projects in the last five minutes that I cant wait to try out!

This Moebius Bowl looks like a lot of fun!

And this flower pot cozy is really fresh – perfect for those spring daffodils!

Sweater Envy

26 Jan 2012 / 0 Comments / in Patterns, Yarn/by Rachel

Discussing my next small project with one of my customers, I happened upon this fabulous sweater from sweaterbabe! So after I finish my fully cabled Rowan cape, my 8-year colorwork sweater, and two baby sweaters, then I will make this one! I think I would use something lovely that has great stitch definition like Manos del Uruguay Rittenhouse or more Green Mountain Spinnery.  The options are endless, I love knitting!
